Fish Oil Supplementation and Diabetes

by on July 07, 2015

Interesting news about fish oil supplementation…

If you have been reading my posts you may have seen me talk about how meat causes diabetes. One of the main mechanisms is fat. Diabetes is caused by insulin resistance that is caused by fat accumulation in the muscle cells (intramyocellular fat).

So what happens if you actually feed overweight men with fish oil? According to this new study, their insulin resistance gets worse. The sad thing is, overweight men are frequently given fish oil to protect their hearts.

This doesn’t mean you need to throw away your fish oil. If you are fairly healthy and eat a good diet, not sure this article applies. But if you eat poor diet heavy in fat and are overweight and/or have type 2 DM, then this may be a concern.
